Melissa Harris-Perry: How Black Lives Matter to American Politics

Melissa Harris-Perry, host of her own MSNBC weekly news program, came to the University of California, Irvine campus on Tuesday November 9, 2015, to talk about "How Black Lives Matter to American Politics."  The event, hosted by UCI Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, Thomas A. Parham, Ph.D., was widely praised for its thoughtful, insightful analysis and discussion.


Harris-Perry's MSNBC program focuses on the intersections of culture, art and community.  She is also the founding director of the Anna Julia Cooper Center on Gender, Race, and Politics in the South, and a Presidential Professor of Politics and International Affairs at Wake Forest University.


Harris-Perry is author of Sister Citizen: Shame, Stereotypes, and Black Women in America and the award-winningBarbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought.
